The Vigo County Public Library registers patrons to allow users to borrow library materials and to utilize library services to fulfill its responsibility for maintaining control of the library materials it lends and the services it provides.
The following categories of persons or groups are eligible to apply for a borrowers card :
Individuals who own property and or reside in Vigo County (also known as the Library District)
Individuals who own property in the library district (Vigo County) who reside elsewhere
Effective July 1, 2010 students enrolled in a public school corporation or a non-public school that is located in the library district (Vigo County)
Effective July 1, 2010 employees of a school corporation or non-public school located in the library district
Effective July 1, 2010 library employees who are not residents of the library district (Vigo County)
Individuals who hold a valid resident library card from a library that participates in the Indiana Public Library Resource Sharing Program also known as the Indiana Reciprocal Borrowing Program may apply for a reciprocal borrower’s card valid for one year
Indiana residents who are not residents of the Library District (Vigo County)and who do not qualify under any of the above may pay an annual fee (Non-resident fee) equivalent to the Vigo County Public Library’s operating fund expenditure per capita ($48, $60 for family) for borrowing privileges
Institutions, business, corporations, and not-for-profit agencies located in the library district (Vigo County)
Public Library Access Card borrowers who purchase a PLAC card.
In order to record all materials loaned from the library each patron is assigned a borrowers card with a unique (barcode) number. All borrowers cards are valid for a three-year period from the date of issue, with the exception of the non-resident fee card, the PLAC card, and the reciprocal borrower’s card which are issued for a one-year period of time.
An adult or emancipated minor who wishes to obtain a borrowers card must complete and sign a borrowers registration form. The borrower’s identity and address of residence is verified prior to issuance of a borrowers card.
Unemancipated persons under the age of eighteen (18) who wish to obtain a borrowers card must complete a young peoples registration form. A parent’s or guardian’s signature is required as well as verification of the parent’s identity and address of residence or guardianship status.
