Content and Scope of Collection
The Emeline Fairbanks Memorial Library opened in 1906 under the jurisdiction of the Terre Haute School Board. The first annual report of this institution was published in 1907 by Moore-Langen Printing Co. of Terre Haute.
This collection contains various annual and monthly reports prepared by the head librarian (administrative director) of the EFML. It is arranged by type of record (annual reports, annual state reports, monthly reports and records) and then in chronological order within each record type.
The annual reports were compiled by the head librarian and presented to the board each year. They include staff and board members, circulation statistics, projects, programs, and financial summaries.
The annual state reports were sent to the Indiana State Library which required public libraries to report statistical information on such facets of library operations as expenditures, volumes in collection, circulation, and staffing.
The librarian's monthly reports included statistical information on circulation, borrowers, acquisitions, and finances and were the basis for the annual reports.
