Content and Scope of Collection
This collection consists of scrapbook pages (numbered from 1 to 60) of newspaper clippings about the Sheldon Swope Art Gallery. There are 10 additional scrapbook-sized pages at the end of the scrapbook but without pagination.
The scrapbook begins on page 1 in 1942 just prior to the opening of the gallery and ends on page 60 with two articles from March 1953.
The following items were inserted after page 60:
- a biography of Sheldon Swope from Greater Terre Haute and Vigo County (author: C.C. Oakey; 4 pages);
- photocopies of articles about the Swope Art Gallery (ca. 1939; 3 pages);
- Sheldon Swope's obituary from the July 10, 1929 edition of the Terre Haute Tribune (from microfilm in negative mode; 3 pages)
