History
The Wabash Senior Citizens Center opened in November 1965 as a result of planning by the Vigo County Council on Aging and Aged with assistance from local labor leaders, individuals from Indiana State University and others. The group determined that a senior citizens center located near the downtown business district was needed to provide programs and activities for the community's elderly citizens.
The Center was housed in the former B'nai Abraham synagogue building at 5th and Poplar Streets that was purchased by Ben Blumberg and deeded to the Center. Blumberg also provided the initial funds to keep the Center in operation. Sidney Levin was the first president of the Wabash Senior Citizens Center.
