Content and Scope of Collection
This collection pertains to the estate of William W. Williams, a prominent merchant and early settler in Terre Haute during the 1830s. After William's death in 1839, his brother Israel Williams became the administrator of the estate. These papers include records and correspondence that deal with settling the personal and public accounts of Williams and his partnership with Alexander J. Lawrence. Also included are the Susan R. Williams records of expenditures the estate was responsible for in the years following her husband's death.
