Notes on formation and purposes of VCCC:
VCCC grew out of efforts to reorganize the dormant Community Council. During meetings of the reorganization committee in the summer of 1959, it was decided to dissolve the Community Council and create the Vigo County Coordinating Council.
In the 1963-1964 Directory of Agencies, compiled by the Vigo County Coordinating Council, the following description of its functions is given.
VIGO COUNTY CO-CORDINATING COUNCIL
The COUNCIL, an autonomous, non-profit body, is operated to bring together agencies, both public and private, organizations and individuals in Vigo County who are interested in the community's needs in the fields of health, recreation, youth and welfare. The COUNCIL strives to acquaint its members and the general public with programs, problems and needs of the various agencies, both public and private, and to effectively meet these needs through community planning and action.
The COUNCIL meets monthly (third Friday, Hotel Deming) except in June, July and August. Membership is open to any individual, agency or organization interested in the objectives of the COUNCIL. Management of the COUNCIL is under the direction of a Board of Directors of twenty-one (21) elected from the membership.
