Content and Scope of Collection

This collection consists of two letters on one sheet of paper addressed to Americus Miller Ray and dated December 16, 1862. The first letter is written by Harvey Jackson (husband of Demerris Ray); the second letter is written by Demerris Anna Ray Jackson (sister of Americus Miller Ray and wife of Harvey Jackson).

Born in Vigo County, Indiana, on January 10, 1842, Americus Miller Ray served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was killed March 6, 1863 at Nashville, Tennessee. For additional family information, see inventory folder and the Jackson and Ray genealogy files in Special Collections.
