History
The Terre Haute Woman's Federated Club was founded on March 13, 1931 in the auditorium of the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce by 62 women interested in the voluntarism principles of the Indiana Federation of Women's Clubs and the national General Federation of Women's Clubs. In its first meeting, the club approved a constitution and bylaws, established its fiscal year as September-May and decided to meet on the second Monday of each month. The first president of the club was Mrs. John B. Wisely.
The first general meeting of the Woman's Federated Club was held at the Hotel Deming and attended by more than 200 women. Monthly business meetings were usually followed by a speaker or some other form of entertainment..
The General Federation of Women's Clubs is an international
women's organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives
of others through volunteer service.
