V. C. P. L Brown Bag;The American Quilt As Folk Art

Quilt in a Quilting Hoop
Main Library
Meeting Rooms A, B, & C
Thursday, May 15 - 12:15 pm to 1:00 pm

Is the American quilt an example of folk craft or folk art? In this presentation, folklorist Nan McEntire will show compelling images of quilts; she also will bring along examples of hand sewn quilts, both historic and contemporary. Dr. McEntire will tell stories about the quilts and the details of their construction. Her research is based on decades of ethnographic fieldwork in Indiana. One highlight of the presentation will be a chance to examine a stunning Terre Haute quilt "September Souls," created by the late Rosemary England.
