Suicide is the second leading cause of death among teenagers in the United States and the most preventable.  You can learn to identify the risk factors and warning signs of a mental or behavioral health crisis before it's too late.  In this eight hour class led by Christina Crist, VP and Executive Director of Team of Mercy, you will learn how to recognize possible signs of mental health challenges and how to help a teenager dealing with these issues.    Youth Mental Health First Aid is a public education program made available through Hamilton Center.  It seeks to increase public understanding of mental health challenges, teach parents and other caregivers how to assist a teenager who may be affected by these challenges and remove the stigma surrounding them.  Team of Mercy is a nonprofit organization that assists survivors of suicide.  This class is not designed to teach the diagnosis of mental health disorders.  Lunch for registered participants will be provided by the Library.

Return to Elizabeth Byler-Younts richly imagined World War II-era Amish community in Promise to Cherish.  Young and headstrong Eli is an Amish conscientious objector to the war who is trying to become a man of character by serving in a Civilian Public Service Unit.  While at the Hudson River State Hospital, he meets Christine, a nurse with a tragic past.  The two become friends, and when Christine's abusive ex, Jack, returns from the war, Eli offers her refuge within the Amish community.  But as their friendship deepens into love, Eli faces the prospect of being shunned unless Christine becomes Amish.
