Library Speaker Series: Burma: Then and Now with Dorothy Drummond

Pagoda Against Sky
Main Library
Meeting Rooms A, B, & C
Thursday, August 20 - 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm

Burma, sometimes known an Myanmar, has emerged from fifty years of withdrawal. The army, which ruled the country ruthlessly, is still in control, but Burma now has an elected president, himself a former army leader. Tourism is now allowed, and the country is changing. Dorothy Drummond spent a Fulbright year in Burma in 1957-58, visited briefly in 1996 and again in 2013. Her talk and insights will be illustrated.
