Handwriting Without Tears

Main Library
Meeting Room D
Tuesday, October 11
4:30 pm to 5:30 pm
We invite you to join us this fall for a class that presents writing the alphabet in such a way that students can learn through play as well as movement and sensory experiences. Handwriting Without Tears is a fun way to enjoy beginning literacy efforts! This course is multisensory, using music, play-dough, wooden building pieces, slate boards, and stamps to learn and form letters. Fine motor skills are often very difficult for kids with physical disabilities and kids on the spectrum, so we are prepared to adapt the lessons to meet specific needs. Caregivers are encouraged to attend.   This program is a collaboration between ISU's Community School of the Arts; ISU's Occupational Therapy program and Saint Mary of the Woods Music Therapy program. Dr. Paula Jarrard (supervisor) and Occupational Therapy graduate students, along with Prof Sharon R. Boyle (supervisor) and Music Therapy undergraduate students, will facilitate sessions. To register or for more information, please call the Community School of the Arts at (812) 237-2528. Early registration is advised, as enrollment is limited to 14 students.
