Harsha Behavioral Center is a 36 bed inpatient psychiatric hospital for children and adolescents.  In early 2010 a Geriatric Unit named Savera was added and is an 8-bed unit serving patients age 55+ in need of psychiatric care.

This center in Indiana State University's College of Education provides comprehensive evaluations for communication disorders, as well as individuall designed treatment plans, and offers speech, language and hearing screenings.  Services at the Rowe Center are available to children and adults of all ages with no charge.

The Rowe Center provides services for the following types of disorders which may affect communication:

Articulation, Language, Hearing, Stuttering, Voice disorders, Aphasia, Apraxia, Dysarthia, Autism, Cognitive disorders, and Congenital disorders/syndromes.

"The Indigent Medical Care Program addresses the need for quality medical care for those low-income households struck by illness and unable to afford treatment due to a lack of insurance coverage. Indigent Medical Care staff coordinates efforts with Vigo County physicians, specialists, hospitals, clinics, laboratories and testing facilities to provide service to low-income households at no cost. Upon occasion, the Indigent Medical Care Program has been able to provide limited assistance for prescription medication through the generosity of private donations to the program. Household income eligibility is based on 125% of the Federal Poverty guidelines.  Hours 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday."

Provides preconception care, prenatal care, labor and delivery care, care after birth, gynecological exams, assistance with family planning, menopausal management, counseling in health maintenance and disease prevention.

Clinic fees are on a sliding scale determine by client resources and family size.  Medicaid is accepted.  NO ONE IS EXCLUDED BASED ON THE INABILITY TO PAY.

More commonly known as food stamps, this program helps low-income people and families to buy the food they need for good health.

Healthy Indiana Plan
Health care for individuals earning below 200% of the federal poverty level
(approximately $20,000 for an individual or $42,000 for a family in 2009)
The program offers comprehensive medical care such as doctor visits, prescription drugs, behavioral health care, hospitalizations and surgeries.  The program requires minimal monthly contributions from eligible participants.

Hoosier Healthwise
Hoosier Healthwise is a state sponsored health care program for children, pregnant women and families.  The program offers comprehensive medical care, such as doctor visits, prescription drugs, mental health care, dental care, hospitalizations, surgeries and pregnancy services at little or no cost.  Based on family income, children and prenant women may be eligible for no-cost or low-cost coverage if they are below 200% of the federal poverty level, approximately $42,000 for a family of four.  Federal poverty level calculations take into account all earnings including unemployment insurance.  You may apply online at www.fssa.in.gov or at your local Division of Family Resources office.  In Terre Haute that is 43L Meadows Center (lower level) or call 1-800-403-0864

Transportation Choices

Terre Haute Transit Utility
750 Cherry Street – Multi-modal transportation facility. 235-0109 (currently has 14 wheelchair accessible buses) Current fare is $1.25.
Seniors and disabled can ride for 60 cents between 9:15 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. All seniors and disabled must show Social Security ID Cards when boarding to receive the seniors rate of being age 60 and over. Check bus schedules for times or call the office to determine if the buses travel close to your desired medical facility or office.

ADA buses: “Wheels to the World”. This is a paratransit service for those who qualify and requires a doctor’s certification. Current cost is $1.75 per one-way trip. Call 235-0109 for more information. ADA rides are usually scheduled in advance.

Demand Response service for the elderly and disabled individuals who live anywhere in the MPA. Rural transit services for individuals who live outside the city limits of Terre Haute. Those who qualify for the Senior and Disabled Program can ride for a donation fee. The cost to the general public for a one-way trip is currently $3.00 for each one way trip.

Demand response and pre-scheduled services for persons who required Medicaid transportation.
Cost: Medical transport is $15.00 per trip and wheelchair service is $40.00 per trip. Mileage for both services is $2.25 per mile [call in case this figure has changed due to high gasoline prices]. A companion fee for ambulatory is $5.00 per person. A companion may ride with a wheelchair passenger for a fee of $10.00 per person. Non medical transportation meter rate is based on time and distance.
