Through Another Lens: Paranorman

Main Library
Youth Services Program Room
Wednesday, May 20 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Ages 9-12: Paranorman (rated PG) is a stop-motion, animated film following a young boy who can communicate with ghosts as he attempts to break a 300-year-old curse on his hometown. This film was one of the first animated blockbuster films to include an explicitly gay character. Chris Butler, who wrote the script and co-directed the film with Sam Fell, also identifies as gay according to multiple interviews around the time the movie was released in 2012. The main theme throughout the film asks the audience to consider the assumptions that they make about others based on common stereotypes or personal beliefs, and to spark a conversation about how those assumptions often limit our understanding of the people around us.
